As a MOTHER: Be On Purpose
When we hear the word purpose, we switch gears into some existential crisis.
But really, it's not that difficult.
We were wired to believe that society molds us to people we are pressured to become. We grow up in this world, that no matter what we do we are unable to escape from. Growing up, we were told where to go to school and what to wear and whom to be friends with. This "normal/standard" way of life, I can not truly complain about, now that I am a mother myself. However, as we grow older living in our adult life--we question things by recognizing instances wherein we felt intuitively that we were not completely aligned, as if something was off and missing. Based on these experiences I have as an adult, I approach parenthood a little bit different. I don't demand specificity or finality with my son's future, but for him to be completely happy and to be an obedient person with a good heart. I can see that in him, this probably feel like I'm a bit too lax when it comes to his future endeavors such as 'what to get into when it comes to career choices'. We've had talks about what he wants to get into, and I think that is enough for him to explore and to really consider getting to know himself, just as we all do coming of age.
As an adult and a parent, these societal pressures sometimes get the best of me. I continuously have to keep myself on check that I'm not too controlling, hovering, but also not too detached enough, I'd care less. I want to give my son the space he needs to learn about himself without anyone dictating what he needs to be and what he needs to be guided into the right direction.
We always have decisions to make like in its final form, that we neglect to live life on purpose. In high school, we are required to know what we should major in, and in all honesty--I think I switched mine thrice. We are always on a continuous adventure and journey to discover ourselves day in and day out.
Let's not rush things, let's live life to be aware and true to our intuitions. If it feels right, follow it. Let's not live as if we are running away from what we truly are. Sometimes, it appears to be confusing, because of this constant denial to be ourselves.
Be on purpose, whatever that may be.
Purposely serve yourself in order to share this gift to others.
